03 — What Moves ETH

Four forces that move Ethereum price

Network Activity & Gas

ETH demand tracks usage: DeFi volume, NFT mints, L2 settlement and stablecoin transfers all consume gas. EIP-1559 burns base fees, so heavy usage can make ETH net-deflationary — tightening supply as activity rises.

Staking & ETFs

Over 25% of ETH is staked, locking supply and paying ~3–4% yield. US spot Ethereum ETFs (launched July 2024) added institutional demand, with BlackRock's ETHA leading billions in inflows.

Upgrades

The Merge (2022), Dencun (2024) and future scaling upgrades cut fees and improve throughput. Each successful upgrade reprices ETH's long-term utility as the settlement layer for thousands of L2s and apps.

Bitcoin & Macro Beta

ETH typically amplifies BTC moves 1.2–1.5x. Risk-on macro (rate cuts, tech rally) lifts ETH; risk-off or SEC/regulatory pressure hits it harder than Bitcoin. The ETH/BTC ratio is the market's risk-appetite gauge.

04 — FAQ

Ethereum Price — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Ethereum price today?

Ethereum (ETH) price today is shown live at the top of this page, updated every 60 seconds from CoinGecko across 600+ exchanges, with 24h change, high/low, market cap and 7-day chart.

What is Ethereum's all-time high?

Ethereum's all-time high is $4,946, set in August 2025. Its prior ATH was $4,878 in November 2021 during the DeFi/NFT bull run.

What is Ethereum and what is ETH used for?

Ethereum is a decentralized smart contract platform hosting DeFi, NFTs and thousands of tokens. ETH pays gas fees, secures the network via staking, and serves as collateral across DeFi.

Why does Ethereum price follow Bitcoin?

BTC sets overall crypto risk appetite and ETF flows; ETH then amplifies the move because it is smaller, more volatile and more tied to on-chain activity. The ETH/BTC ratio rises in risk-on markets and falls in risk-off.

Does Ethereum have a supply cap?

No hard cap. ETH issuance pays stakers while EIP-1559 burns base fees — during heavy usage ETH supply shrinks (deflationary); during quiet periods it grows slightly (inflationary).

What is Ethereum staking and does it affect price?

Staking locks ETH to secure the network for ~3–4% yield. Over 25% of supply is staked, reducing liquid supply — a structural support for price, though unstaking queues can add sell pressure after rallies.

Will Ethereum reach $10,000?

Bulls cite ETF inflows, staking lock-up, L2 growth and fee burns; bears cite competition from Solana/L2s and regulatory risk. It would require roughly a 3–4x from recent levels. No prediction is guaranteed.

How is ETH different from BTC?

BTC is digital gold — fixed supply, store of value. ETH is programmable oil — fuel for apps, with flexible supply, staking yield and fee burns tied to network usage.

What moves Ethereum gas fees and price together?

High on-chain demand raises gas fees (more ETH burned) and usually lifts price; quiet periods lower burns and price momentum. Dencun cut L2 fees sharply, shifting more activity — and value — to layer-2s.
