Devcon 8 Returns to Asia in Mumbai, November 2026

Devcon 8, the Ethereum Foundation's flagship annual developer conference, will take place November 3–6, 2026 at the Jio World Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. It is the first time Devcon has been held in Asia since Devcon 5 in Osaka, Japan in 2019, and the first time it comes to India in the conference's history. The four-day event draws builders, researchers, protocol contributors, and community organizers from across the global Ethereum network.

What the Event Covers

Devcon is structured around open-source development and applied research on the Ethereum protocol and its surrounding infrastructure. Programming spans multiple simultaneous tracks covering layer-2 scaling, privacy-preserving technology, zero-knowledge proofs, decentralized identity, security auditing, and protocol research. Unlike commercially driven conferences, the majority of Devcon's sessions are community-submitted and community-led, meaning practitioners present work-in-progress research and tooling rather than polished marketing decks.

The event also includes dedicated space for unconferences, workshops, and hands-on hacking sessions. Past editions, including Devcon 7 in Bangkok in November 2024, hosted over 400 speakers across more than 300 sessions drawing 12,000-plus attendees. The Mumbai edition is expected to operate at a similar or larger scale given India's developer base.

Confirmed Speakers

As of June 2026, the Ethereum Foundation has not published a finalized speaker roster for Devcon 8. The Foundation's standard practice is to open a community speaker application process and release confirmed speakers in rolling batches in the months leading up to the event. Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has appeared at every prior Devcon and is expected to participate. Nathan Sexer, Devcon Team Lead at the Ethereum Foundation, has been the primary spokesperson for the Mumbai announcement and will play a central organizational role.

Tickets

Early Bird tickets are priced at $349, paid exclusively in ETH on Ethereum Mainnet (L1). The regular ticket price is $699. All ticket tiers include four days of full conference access, a swag package, and lunch each day. Prices are inclusive of 18% GST under Indian tax law.

The Ethereum Foundation is reserving 1,000 discounted tickets at $25 for Indian students, available through a separate application process that uses Self.xyz's Aadhaar-based zero-knowledge proof verification to confirm Indian residency. An additional 1,000 discounted tickets at $99 are available for international students. Both student pools are limited and applications opened alongside the first ticket wave.

Venue

Jio World Centre is a 1.8-million-square-foot convention and cultural complex in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai's primary financial and commercial district. The venue has hosted large-scale international conferences, including the Global Fintech Fest, and has sufficient breakout hall and auditorium space to accommodate Devcon's multi-track format. Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is approximately 8 kilometres from BKC, with metro and road connections serving the area.

Why It Matters in 2026

India is the largest single-country source of new cryptocurrency developers as of 2023, according to Electric Capital's developer reports, and has over 17 million active GitHub contributors. The Ethereum Foundation's decision to hold Devcon 8 in Mumbai is a direct response to that concentration of technical talent. Organizations including Polygon, Devfolio, and ETHIndia have spent years building Ethereum developer infrastructure in the country, and Devcon's arrival is expected to accelerate university recruitment and grassroots community formation across South Asia.

The timing - four days before Diwali on November 8 - positions the event as an invitation for international attendees to extend their trip and engage with Indian culture, a deliberate choice by the Ethereum Foundation to embed Devcon into its host city rather than treat it as a self-contained international zone.
